Ashes and a bronze spear can be obtained without gaining experience or completing quests. However, you will gain combat experience for killing the Ghoul on your way to Morytania. You can obtain Ashes by dropping Glowing mushrooms, found deeper within the mine. Don't go too far once you're done. The next task is in the vicinity.
